Herculaneum was an ancient Roman town, an holiday village by the sea for wealthy romans, famous for the fishing and suggestive vineyards, as Pompei was buried by the eruption of the Volcano Mount Vesuvio in 79 A.D. but in a different way.
As a matter of fact volcaninc ashes didn’t fall on the town but it was hit by a such high temperatures blast that it carbonised items in the city, this is why we can admire houses almost intact and see highly degradable materials like wood, furniture and papyrus. Today in Herculaneum is possible to admire incredibly well adorned houses, with amazing frescoes that will enchat you and bring you back to the fast of the ancient Romans.
Mount Vesuvius is one of the most important Volcano in the world as it is the only active of the Continental Europe. It’s known in the History for the destructive eruption of the 79 AD that destroyed many towns nearby, among which Pompei and Ercolano.
Your personal driver will take you till 1000 metres and help you with the tickets, then there will be the begging of a pleasant climb of about 40 minutes till the top, along the way you will meet the internal guides of the site that will explain to you the history of the Volcano, its activities and on what can be seen from the mount.
The view from the top is breathtaking, in fact in the clear days there is an amazing view on the Gulf of Napoli and on the archaeological site of Pompei and Ercolano. On the volcano you will also find a renowned winery that allows you to discover the typical flavours of the Neapolitan area. There after a visit of the vineyard, with an explanation of the chief winemaker on the methods of production, there will be a lunch with fresh food and a tasting of their own wine.So this will be the perfect day, between history and local flavours.
