A hike
through the legendary mountain
Mount vesuvius is one of the most important volcano in the world as it is the only active of the continental europe. It’s known in the history for the destructive eruption of the 79 ad that destroyed many towns nearby, among which pompeii and herculaneum. It has been active till 1944 and now monitorized 24/7
traveling on a mountainous road in the national park, surrounded by a large mediterranean vegetation, pine forrest and lava rock your personal driver will take you up to 1000 meters above sea level. Along the way we will admire the remarkable formation of the ancient volcano together with the original crater now extinct and transformed into a caldera that destroyed the roman cities of pompeii, ercoluale, oplontis, stabiae and boscoreale and the new formation due to the explosive
explosions that occurred over the centuries .
Once at 1000 metres altitude you will start your hike to reach the hedge of the mountain, a pleasant hike of about 45 minutes till the top, along the way you will meet the internal guides/escort provided by the site that will explain to you the history of the volcano, its activities and on what can be seen from the mount.
The view from the top is breathtaking, in fact in the clear days there is an amazing view on the gulf of naples and on the archaeological site of pompeii and herculaneum.
On the volcano you will also find a renowned winery that allows you to discover the typical flavours of the neapolitan area. There after a visit of the vineyard, with an explanation of the chief winemaker on the methods of production, there will be a lunch with fresh food and a tasting of their own wine.
